PIMEX 2006 KICKS OFF WITH BANGKOK SHOW
Phuket, Thailand, 30 August 2006

Now in its 4th year, Phuket International Marine Expo (PIMEX) takes the show to Bangkok.

From September 21 – 23, organisers Image Asia Events will stage Bangkok’s first ever boatshow at All Seasons Place and the Conrad Hotel in the city’s main business district, Wireless Road – the location chosen by Royal Phuket Marina for its international launch.

10 boats will form an exciting and colourful PIMEX 2006 Preview display in the forecourt of the prestigious All Season Place in full view of busy Wireless Road; exhibition booths will be in the Conrad Hotel’s ballroom, immediately adjacent to the boat displays.

“This show is part of our ongoing drive to entice Bangkok residents, both Thai and expatriate, to sample the leisure boating lifestyle,” said Image Asia director Andy Dowden, adding, “Some in the industry think Bangkok is the best location for Thailand’s major international boatshow. We disagree and so do most of our boat sales exhibitors at PIMEX. Phuket is where most owners will base their boats, while PIMEX can put a lot of boats in the water for the December show.”

“PIMEX 2006 Preview is about reaching out to the Bangkok market on its doorstep, giving visitors the opportunity to see what it’s all about without the need initially to make the trip to Phuket. Exhibitors get the opportunity to invite interested buyers to the main in event in Phuket in December to see a wider range of boats, in the marina environment – something that cannot be achieved in Bangkok,” said Image Asia managing director Grenville Fordham.

Exhibitors at PIMEX 2006 Preview are drawn mainly from the yacht sales, yacht brokerage and yacht charter sectors. “The target market for our marine equipment and accessory exhibitors is different,” said Dowden. “They are generally happy with the type and quality of visitors to PIMEX, while it is clear that the untapped domestic market in Thailand is the key to achieving major growth in sales of boats, as well as an opportunity to market ‘Green Season’ yacht charters.

PIMEX 2006 Preview’s first day on Thursday 21 September will be restricted to media and invited guests. Friday and Saturday will be open to the general public. PIMEX (2006) Preview will be supported by a strong campaign in Thailand’s national media.

Meanwhile, plans for PIMEX 2006 are taking firm shape with strong bookings from previous and new exhibitors. While the basic format remains the same as in 2005, the organisers have revised the marquee layout. “Feedback from exhibitors tells us that connecting our two main marquees together with ‘tunnel-like’ smaller tents is not popular. This year we plan to separate the two main marquees and combine free-standing, outdoor boat displays with the layout. This will give PIMEX 2007 a fresh look and will ensure a higher level of visitor traffic to the smaller boat displays that tend to get ‘lost’ on the hardstand amongst the bigger presentations,” said Dowden.

PIMEX 2006 Preview will be held from 21 – 23 September, at All Seasons Place, Bangkok.
PIMEX 2006 will be held from 7 – 10 December, at the Boat Lagoon, Phuket
