Phuket International Marine Expo: Boating and Lifestyle

The inaugural PIMEX took place in December 2003. Phuket, with its rapidly expanding marine industry and a healthy property market was already established as one of the worlds prime leisure destinations and a favourite with those seeking to relocate to a better lifestyle.

The marine players and property developers were in need of a showcase for Phuket and Thailand's assets and to bring products from overseas to the Thai market.

Shortly after this first show the import duty on boats was reduced to zero as the government quickly realised the potential of this high end sustainable tourism.The show has matured over the years and now is held at Phuket's most prestigious residential marina project.

Informa Yacht Group

Informa Yacht Group a leading events organiser recently acquired PIMEX from Andaman Marine Consultants and has appointed AMC as the management company for the show.

Informa also own The Monaco Yacht Show, The Superyacht Cup in Palma and in Antigua, and the World Yacht Racing Forum. Its parent company, Informa PLC, also organises over 10,000 exhibitions and conferences worldwide through its subsidiary IIR Exhibitions.

Andaman Marine Consultants

Involved from the beginning in PIMEX, Andaman Marine Consultants is the working base of managing director Andy Dowden and is registered as a limited company in Phuket, Thailand.

Events

The company was a consultant and effectively organiser of the show with Image Asia Events from 2003 to 2006. In January 2007 Andaman Marine Consultants took over ownership of the show and relocated it for 2007 to the five-star Royal Phuket Marina.
AMC continues to act in a consulting capacity to Image Asia Events for the Phuket Race Week.

Marine Consulting

AMC carries out marine surveys, project management, and general consulting to the marine industry.

Andy Dowden is an English marine engineer and has lived in Thailand since 1984. He has been involved in most aspects of the marine industry since its small beginnings in the late 80s. He was involved in the development of the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta for many years and was President in 2002. Andy is co-author of the definitive sailing guide to the region… Andaman Sea Pilot.
