PIMEX 2007 to be held at Royal Phuket Marina

BANGKOK: 28 APRIL, 2007

Hot on the heels of the announcement that Phuket has been voted “Asia’s Maritime Capital” at the recent Christophle Awards Ceremony in Bangkok, comes news of the tropical island's own boat show.

The 5th Phuket International Boat Show is being relocated to the prestigious 5 Gold Anchor Award winning Royal Phuket Marina.

PIMEX, Thailand’s first international boat show, was conceived — and has been organized for four years — by Image Asia Events Co., Ltd, under the direction of Show Director Andy Dowden. As part of the company’s strategic restructuring, and in the interests of maintaining a close relationship with its industry base, the organisation and operation of PIMEX 2007 has been transferred to Andy’s marine consultancy company, Andaman Marine Consultants.

After four years of steady growth, the show will move to the Royal Phuket Marina in and around the 80-berth yacht basin, encompassing luxury apartments, the ‘Boardwalk’ and ‘Town Square’.

Two thousand square metres of air-conditioned exhibition space within the marina complex are being made available for the exhibitors' booths. Up to 50 boats are expected in the water and on the land.

Restaurants, Clubs and a Sports Bar will be within the show area, while underground parking caters for 250 vehicles.

Andy Dowden, Show Director for Andaman Marine Consultants, said the move was an exciting development and would take the show to a higher level as Thailand's premier boating and lifestyle event.

Coinciding with Phuket Kings Cup Regatta, also voted ‘Yachting Event of the Year’ for the second year, the show will continue to be an integral part of Phuket’s annual marine showcase.

Gulu Lalvani, owner of Royal Phuket Marina, said he was delighted with the news and welcomed PIMEX as part of his dream to cement the position of Phuket as the first destination of choice for marine leisure. Royal Phuket Marina, along with existing and new marinas under construction, are already making this beautiful island the hub for sailing and cruising in the region.

Royal Phuket Marina’s ‘Town Square’, well known for its spectacular social events, is a fitting centrepiece for the region's best marine show.

Marketing support for PIMEX 2007 will continue to be provided by Paul Poole (South East Asia) Co., Ltd.
