PIMEX APPOINTS CHAPLIN PR FOR SINGAPORE

Chaplin Public Relations has been appointed as the PR agency for Thailand ’s international boat show, Phuket International Marine Expo (PIMEX) 2006. Chaplin is being retained to implement Singapore PR, as well as media activities in selected Southeast Asian markets in the run up to, and during the 4 th PIMEX show, due to be held at The Boat Lagoon, Phuket from 7-10 th December 2006.

Organised by Image Asia Events and positioned as Southeast Asia ’s foremost international boat show, PIMEX is the only boating exhibition in Southeast Asia organised by serious boating experts. Image Asia Events currently organises Evason Phuket Race Week and the Koh Samui Regatta and is also the publisher of the region’s definitive sailing guide, Andaman Sea Pilot. PIMEX is established as the region’s most credible show for the international boat trade to parlay news, industry developments and broker serious boating-related deals.

The strategic partnership between PIMEX and Chaplin PR is a good fit. Through the company’s past work for Boat Asia 2004, 2005 and 2006, ONE °15 Marina Club and Simpson Marine, and its present work for such clients as Horizon Yachts, Kingfisher Marine, Jade Yachts and the Taiwan International Boat & Watersports Expo (TIBWS) Chaplin Public Relations has been a key player in introducing leisure boating to the Singapore media and getting the topic on the media’s agenda.

“Chaplin PR is widely acknowledged as the expert and therefore the ‘gatekeeper’ for any boating related stories in the Singapore media. We’re the first people the media call when they’re planning a boating item; we always step up to the plate quickly and efficiently and provide materials, information, sea trials or even boat yard visits, often at short notice,” said Chaplin PR’s Managing Director, Danny Chaplin.

“Chaplin PR has achieved some of boating’s seminal media milestones in Singapore . These milestones included a CNBC live satellite uplink from Boat Asia 2005, media cruises, product reviews and brand stories, overseas boat yard visits and publicity stunts – such as getting two Sea Rays up the Singapore River for a media photo session, the first time in recorded history that private leisure craft have been permitted to enter the waterway. We focus on making boating exciting and most importantly accessible and interesting to the business and leisure media,” said Chaplin.

Continued Chaplin, “We were also instrumental in getting out much of the local and regional coverage for the UIM F1 Powerboat Championship and clipper Uniquely Singapore ’s participation in Clipper 05-06 Round The World Race.”

Commenting on the appointment of the Singapore-based PR agency, Grenville Fordham, Image Asia Managing Director, said, “We’ve seen the work Danny Chaplin has done over the past three and a half years in building up the media profile of a relatively new and little known brand like Boat Asia. What Danny brings to the table is a keen interest in all aspects of boating, unrivalled media relationships both in Singapore and internationally, and a proactive, knowledgeable approach to getting things done.”
